The central government has decided to do away with all the unnecessary fringe allowances paid to the central government officers and staff.
It is gathered from the central government circles that the central government has accepted the recommendations of the central government employees’ salary, allowances committee and is set to implement them shortly.
The officials from the central government explained that the recommendations of the 7th Salary Revision Commission included as a special feature the fringe special allowances as well. On this aspect, certain recommendations have been taken. Certain others have been rejected. As per this, the entertainment allowance of Rs. 10000 given to the Cabinet secretary posts and the peers. Presently, the central government employees get a special allowance which is a measure to encourage family planning. The central government has decided that this will be cut.
The allowance for hairdressing will be continued for only a few selected departments. Further, the special allowance given to the officers handling confidential documents will also be cut.
The employees of the Railways and Postal departments are given a cycle allowance of Rs. 90 per month. The wage revision committee had recommended this to be cut. However, the central government has rejected this idea. On the other hand, the central government decided to increase this monthly cycle allowance from the present Rs. 90 per month to Rs. 180 per month.
Around 196 various allowances given to the central government officials/staff of different departments were reviewed in detail. Some of these allowances have been cut. Some others have been increased. A detailed official announcement on this is expected shortly.
