The major telecom service providers in India, including Airtel, Vodafone, and IDEA have appealed to TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) to approve some increase in the call rates.
Presently, the telecom service providers are charging 14 Paise per minute for calls received from other networks.
The companies have appealed to TRAI to increase this to 30 Paise or 35 Paise per minute.
In case this is approved by TRAI, there are chances of the cell phone charges going up. This is somewhat contradictory as the same companies are competing with each other in coming up with great concessional offers trying to attract more customers. With the competition for concessional offers at full swing, they have now appealed for an increase in the call charges.
