Fewer Aadhar centres struggle to cope with increased demand

On one hand, the central government is making Aadhar cards mandatory while on the other hand, there prevails difficulty in getting one. According to reports from the Unique Identification Authority of India, there are only 62 Aadhar card enrollment centres present in Chennai that has 200 divisions. Due to unavailability of adequate instruments and functioning without license, there are problems of delay in providing Aadhar cards.

One can get Aadhar card through offices including Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation, Common Services Centres and Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Limited (ELCOT). The public is well educated about the first two schemes. However, they don’t have any idea about ELCOT that is present in a lot of places including Velachery, Nandanam and Chennai collector’s office.

Things don’t go smooth with TACTV and CSCs. At the same time, it is well known that citizens who opt for Arasu cable TV offices need to approach after 1 month of enrolling for Aadhar cards as there is a long waiting list. One of the residents of Egmore approached the TACTV. She says the officials at the office were not even bothered for getting the details and that she was told to come after one month for completing the necessary procedures.
