As tomatoes have started arriving in larger quantities to the Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market, there was a steep fall in tomato price. It was sold at Rs. 35 per kg.

In the last 2 months, there were several auspicious days for conducting weddings and this was one reason for the tomato price to shoot up to Rs. 100 per kg.

However, with the start of the Tamil Calendar month Aadi (during which weddings will not be conducted), The price of tomato started reducing gradually.

During last week, the tomato was sold at Rs. 70 per kg in Koyambedu market. However, the price crashed and yesterday, it was sold at Rs. 35 per kg.

In the retail shops such as Jam Bazaar, tomato is sold at Rs. 50 per kg. In the Farm-green shops, it is sold at Rs. 45 per kg.

The president of the Koyambedu tomato traders association explained that until last month only 32 truck-loads of tomato came to Koyambedu vegetable market. Now, it has increased to 45 truck-loads. This has led to the fall in tomato prices.
