As per the advertisements and hugely popular belief, most of us have entered into the habit of eating cornflakes as the breakfast item.

As it can be taken directly just after mixing it in milk, it saves time as well and easy to prepare. So, it is hugely popular as a breakfast item, especially for children.

However, it is indeed worthy to know whether cornflakes contain all the nutritious elements as in corns. Is it good for children? Does it really help in weight loss?

Corn contains fibre, Manganese, Vitamin - B6, Vitamin -B3, and Phosphorous.

While it gets converted into flake form, corn is subjected to high pressure and heat.

During this process, the form of the nutrients in corn gets changed and thus destroys. Further, taste inducers are added along with artificial vitamins. Note that corn is an organic food item. On the other hand, corn flake is a processed food item.

So, the nutrients available in the original organic food item will hardly remain in a processed food item sold in packets.

Further, sweeteners are also added in cornflakes. This shoots up the Glycemic Index in cornflakes. This will get absorbed into the blood very quickly. So, it is not advisable to give it to the children daily.

As for the weight loss, it is somewhat true that taking corn flakes alone will help weight loss as it contains very little nutrition. However, this tantamount to fasting. As already explained, just taking corn flakes alone will not be good as it does not have any nutrients. It will also fail to keep the hunger out. We will tend to feel hungry within an hour or two. If we take, say, 4 idlis at this point, this will definitely not help in weight loss.

Thus, please note that there is no truth in the belief that taking cornflakes will help in weight loss.

As Glycemic Index is high in corn flakes, it will increase the sugar level in the blood. So, diabetic should totally avoid cornflakes. Taking cornflakes in the long-run may affect the liver. There are good possibilities of being affected by ‘Fatty Liver Disease’.

In general, all the food items which are processed and made artificially are harmful to the human physical health. So, corn flakes are no exception either from this fact.

Cornflakes is not at all nutritious as claimed. The only positive aspect is the least time required for preparation.

In case there is a need to take, it is better to buy the corn itself and used. Never buy cornflakes.
