The price of jaggery has gone up by Rs. 100 per bundle in the sales depots at Paramathi Velur. There are around 13 sales depots trading on jaggery in the Pilikkalpalayam located in the Paramathi Velur Taluk.

As a routine, auctions are conducted in these depots every week on Wednesdays and Saturdays to sell the stock of jaggery.

In the auction conducted yesterday (Wednesday, 16th August), the farmers from the neighbouring areas brought both forms of jaggery – the sphere-shaped form and pressed form for the trading.

The traders from various other districts, including Namakkal, Karur, Salem, Madurai, Dindigul, and Erode participated in the auction.

This week, the farmers had brought 3500 bundles of spherical-shaped jaggery and 900 bundles of the pressed form of jaggery.

During the last week, the spherical-shaped bundle of jaggery (3kg) was sold at Rs. 1400 and the pressed form of jaggery was sold at Rs. 1400 per bundle. However, during this week, the spherical-shaped bundle was sold at Rs. 1500 and the pressed shape bundle was sold at Rs. 1500.

The jaggery producers were happy to note the price rise of Rs. 100 per bundle.
