TN govt: Items to be sold on smart ration card from tomorrow

The state government of Tamil Nadu has ordered that food items must be sold through smart ration cards from tomorrow (Friday, 1st September).

The Commissioner of the Tamil Nadu state Government Department of Food Items Distribution and Consumers has issued a circular all PDS (Public Distribution System) Officers of all districts in the state (except Chennai), The circular states that the essential ration items must henceforth be used for selling them for those who have obtained the new smart ration card.

Presently, the smart ration cards must be printed and sent to all the Fair Price Shops through the regional and Panchayat offices to be handed over to the ration card holders who have not received the smart ration card so far.

So far, 14215382 electronic smart ration cards have been printed and distributed. The balance cards are under printing.

Thus, activities must be initiated to sell/distribute essential ration items only through the electronic smart ration cards for those who have already received them and the sales detail should be informed.
