Due to the rains in the states of Andhra and Karnataka, there has been a considerable increase in the quantity of vegetables arriving at the Chennai Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market. This has led to a reduction in the prices of the vegetables.
The price of tomato had come down to Rs. 24 per kg. Last week, the tomato was sold at Rs. 45 per kg.
The price of brinjal (eggplant) has come down from Rs. 35 per kg to Rs. 25 per kg. Broad beans, which was sold at Rs. 56 per kg, is now sold at Rs. 25 per kg. Bitter gourd, which was sold at Rs. 20 per kg, is now sold at Rs. 15 per kg. Beetroot, which was sold at Rs. 26 per kg, is now sold at Rs. 20 per kg.
The current prices of other vegetables (In Rs. per kg): Onion – 24, Sambar onion – 95, potato and snake gourd – 15, lady’s finger (okra) – 29, cabbage – 11, carrot – 30. Drumstick – 28, green chillis – 25.
