The name of the state government of Tamil Nadu Revenue Department has been changed to Department of Revenue and Disaster Management.

The requisite orders have been released by the Tamil Nadu state government.

The erstwhile Revenue Department of the state government had the responsibility of collecting the Property Tax, Land Tax from the public to be paid to the state government. Apart from this, the department also oversees the various other tasks such as issuing certificates to the public and protecting the public during times of natural disasters,

When the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu experienced the Tsunami Attack in the year 2004 on 26th December, the rescue and re-establishment/recovery activities were undertaken on behalf of the state government. The Revenue and the disaster management department monitored the various plans and activities during this period with the joint help from the central government, World Bank, and Asian Bank. Various self-initiated social service organisations also joined this.

With the tasks above assigned to the department, in many other states of India this department is named as the Revenue and Disaster Management Department.

As such, the name of this department in Tamil Nadu has also been changed now from the ‘Revenue Department’ to ‘Revenue and Disaster Management Department` by the state government.  The requisite order has been issued by the state government.
