With just 2 more weeks left for the Pooja weekend, airfares have seen a steep increase such that one can fly to Delhi at cheaper cost than to Madurai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.
As there is sudden soar in demand for air tickets, there is steep increase in fares. Adding to this is the weekend period when schools will be shut too after quarterly examination. To these destinations, the price of one-way trip will be around Rs 5,000 when bookings are made 14 days in advance. The rate may furthermore see an uptick in the following days.
Speaking about this, an air official says rather than choosing to visit destination to which they can travel in flight within half an hour, it is smarter to opt for destinations like Mumbai or Delhi and enjoy their leave days instead of being with relatives in their own small town.
A renowned travel agent suggests some of the short getaways for long weekends this year as Himachal Pradesh, Gujrat, Leh, Ladakh, etc. The others are Thailand and Sri Lanka as both these have on-arrival Visa.
On 28th September, the cost of one-way travel from Chennai to Kochi will be of the range Rs 4,300 to Rs 9,100, whereas for the same date, travel to Madurai will cost Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000.
