Complaints have been received that the staff in the ration shops do not sell rice and other items to those who do not have the smart ration card. However, action had been initiated to sell items to those who still have the old ration cards.
Generally, it is essential to have a ration card while buying items in the ration shops. Presently, the old paper family ration cards are being replaced by the smart ration cards.
Out of the existing 1.92 Crores ration cards, there has been a delay in issuing the new smart ration cards to 28 Lakh persons. Complaints have been received that these card holders (without smart ration cards) are being harassed by the ration shop personnel who do not sell the demanded items.
One of the affected card holders explained that he was sent back the ration sop personnel under the pretext smart ration card was not shown. Even while complaining to the concerned officers, they do not take any corrective action.
An official from the Food department explained that strict instructions have been given to the ration shop personnel that things must be sold to the people with smart ration cards when they present themselves. However, for those without the smart ration card, the ration shop personnel have been asked to use the last 4 digits of the old ration card and the PoS device (Point of Sales) and then sell the required items. However, complaints have been received that this is not being done and the people are sent back without the ration shop items.
The official further informed that in case the affected people make a complaint to the Assistant Commissioner of the PDS (Public Distribution System), immediate action will be taken on the concerned ration shop personnel.
In order to avoid these hardships, it is advisable for the people without smart ration cards to immediately make the corrections required and attach a recent clear photograph and submit the old one and get the new smart ration cards.
