Integrated bus terminus on GST road soon

The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority is eyeing to set up an integrated bus terminus on GST Road at Kilambakkam. Here, commuters will be able to board into state-owned transport buses as well as omni buses. The passengers will get the experience like that of an airport where visitor entry will be restricted.

According to CMDA sources, the idea behind is to create an integrated facility right inside the airport. From the Airport, commuters can either take Air India or private carriers. Likewise, this bus terminus will also serve as a public facility for boarding into the bus, said a CMDA official.

There are 2 separate terminals one for the transport corporation buses and the other for fleets operated by the other private owners. Usually, the government buses take their route from Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus and the private ones start from Chennai Contract Carriage Bus Terminus. With this new plan of integrated terminus, the need for separate facility for private operations at Kilambakkam will be omitted.

There will be access control in the terminal. Visitor entry will be allowed only in specific zone from where they can send off the passengers, the official said.
