Today, the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind has appointed Banwarilal Purohit as the Governor of Tamil Nadu. After the period of K Rosaiah who served as full time governor, and retired on August 2016, this is the next full time governor.
After the retirement of Mr Rosaiah, Maharashtra governor Vidyasagar Rao had been serving additional charge as the governor of Tamil Nadu governor.
Apart from filling the governor vacancy in Tamil Nadu, the president also filled vacancies in 5 other states
- Retired Brig. B. D. Mishra is appointed as the new governor of Arunachal Pradesh
- Satya Pal Malik is appointed as Bihar governor
- Prof. Jagdish Mukhi is appointed as the governor of Assam
- Ganga Prasad appointed as the governor of Meghalaya
- Retired Admiral DK Joshi will take over in Andaman and Nicobar islands
Mr Purohit got appointed as the governor of Assam on 17th August 2016. He has got elected as the Member of Parliament three times. Two times on Indian National Congress’s tickey and once as the member of BJP.
