Southwest Monsoon has finally ended and Tamil Nadu being a rain shadow state has witnessed extremely good rainfall activity during the season and remained rain surplus by 31 percent. Meanwhile, the post Monsoon season has also started with a bang over the region including the capital city Chennai.
Varied intensity of rain and thundershower activities have been occurring constantly. In the past day, scattered rain was observed in Chennai, meanwhile, other districts of Tamil Nadu witnessed light to moderate with one or two heavy spells.
In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Wednesday, Madurai witnessed 64.8 mm of rain, Salem 60 mm, Cuddalore 16 mm, Thanjavur 11 mm, Dharmapuri 10 mm and Tondi 3.6 mm of rain. In the same span of time, Minambakkam Observatory recorded 4 mm of rain meanwhile, Nungambakkam failed to witness any rain.
As per Skymet Weather, a trough is extending from North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra coast, therefore, we expect light to moderate rain and thundershower activity to continue for the next few days. One or two short spells of intense shower may also occur in some parts of Chennai but heavy to extremely heavy rains are ruled out.
The interior parts of Tamil Nadu will also continue with scattered rain and thundershower activity. The maximum day temperatures will settle in mid-30’s in spite of the significant rain activity. The weather will also remain warm and sultry.
