The Railway Police and the Railway Protection Force have announced that carrying fireworks/firecrackers in the trains will entail 3 years imprisonment.
With the fast ensuing festival of Deepavali, a large number fireworks sales shops have sprung in many places and the business is slowly picking up. It is a routine for some people visiting their native places for the occasion of Deepavali to carry firecrackers for their families and relatives.
In this scenario, the Railway Police have taken up announcing in the major railway stations like Chennai Central and Egmore warning the public not to carry any fireworks. Further, they distribute notices as well on this issue. The notice mentions that carrying fireworks in the trains will entail 3 years imprisonment and a penalty of Rs. 1000.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) explained that this issue has been taken up strongly after the fire accident a few months ago in the Perungudi Railway Station on the MRTS (Mass Rapid Transport System).
The RPF further informed that the public should not tend to believe they can still violate this and escape being caught if they manage somehow to enter the train with the banned fireworks.
Apart from extra vigilance in the railway stations, flying squads will be deployed to enter the coaches and the check the personal belongings of the passengers thoroughly.
In case they find the ban is violated, stringent action will be taken immediately without fail.
The passengers themselves should realise that in the event of any fire accident, the damage caused due to the firecrackers will be much more drastic and hence should avoid this on their own. Flying squads have been formed and deployed for stringent monitoring.
