As a move to cater to the increased demand by commuters owing to Diwali, the State Express Transport Corporation, private operators and Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation are likely to roll out increased bus count from Chennai to other states. Aiding ease of passengers, for 3 days, the state government is likely to function more number of buses in addition to those in CMBT, Koyambedu on days between 15th and 17th October.
In addition to the bus terminus functional at Koyambedu, buses will also be operated from Poonamallee, Tambaram Sanatorium, Anna Nagar West, and Saidapet MTC depot. From Chennai, an estimated 11,645 buses are likely to be operated.
From Koyambedu bus stand, buses to Trichy, Madurai, Velankanni, Tirunelveli, Trivandrum, Panrutti, Senkottai, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Salem, Coimbatore, Kanchipuram, Ernakulam, and Bangalore will be operated.
From Poonamallee bus stand, buses to the northern and northwestern towns including Arcot, Arani, Vellore, Dharmapuri, Tirupathur, Hosur and Krishnagiri will be operated.
From Anna Nagar west bus stand, Tamil Nadu and APSRTU buses heading to Andhra Pradesh will be functional.
From Tambaram Sanatorium, buses to Kumbakonam and areas beyond Tanjore through Dindivanam will be functional.
From Saidapet bus depot, buses to Puducherry, Cuddalore, and Chidambaram will be operated.
The city traffic police are also working out plans to ensure good flow of traffic at times of peak rush.
