As promised, in December, distribution of Smart Cards to 1.25 crore school students will begin.

The distribution will kick-start from the first week of December month, says K.A Sengottaiyan, the Minister of School Education, Sports and Youth Welfare. It was in May 2017 that the minister announced this initiative.

These smart cards will mark and end to concerns about student attendance. Further, it will be of help in tracking students’ academic performance, and importantly, parents can easily keep track of the whereabouts of their children and know if they are present in the school.

The smart card will contain a chip in it and this will keep transferring the student information. These cards are intended to completely replace student ID cards. The smart cards will carry prominent student information including that of Aadhar number, blood group, contact details, and family details.

Furthermore, academic information of students along with phone numbers, school facilities and amenities, total number of students studying in the school, etc. can also be known.
