The deadline for linking Aadhar card details with various other avenues (mobile, family smart ration card, bank account, and other social welfare benefits) has now been extended from 31st December 2017 to 31st March 2018.
This news was conveyed by the central government to the Supreme Court.
The central government had earlier announced that linking Aadhar card will be mandatory to avail all the social welfare benefit schemes offered.
The central government also ordered that Aadhar card must be linked to the smart ration card, bank savings account, etc.
Earlier, the central government had announced the deadline for this up to 31st December 2017.
However, several complaints were received that the various social welfare schemes were being denied as Aadhar card had not been linked. A petition was also submitted to the Supreme Court in this regard.
The Supreme Court ordered that the central government has to offer an explanation.
In this situation, the central government has informed the Supreme court that the deadline for linking Aadhar card has been extended up to 31st March 2018.
