In spite of the revision in syllabus, the total number of students stepping into the IIT from Tamil Nadu state board remains less. Out of the total 8.22 lakh students who have passed out of class-12 this year, hardly 20 of them have grabbed an IIT admission, says a statistic report from the ministry of human resource development.
Answering an RTI query, the report states that 253 candidates from the state of Tamil Nadu have acquired seats in reputed engineering colleges. Of them, 221 are from Central Board of Secondary Education, 19 of them are from Tamil Nadu Board of Higher Secondary Education, 7 from Andhra Pradesh Board of Intermediate Education and 5 of them are from Telangana Board of Intermediate Education, and 1 from National Institute of Open Schooling.
A total of 49,695 students took up the JEE Main exam from the state of which 1,184 of them got qualified for the JEE Advanced exam. From this, 253 students have obtained seats in different IITs from all over India. Comparing Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, TN has performed comparatively better. However, there are more students hailing from the other states such as Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. TN has acquired No. 13 in the list.
