The Porur lake spread across 200 acres or 87.12 lakh sq. ft. The total capacity of the lake is 4.6 Crore Cubic Feet – humongous! It serves as one of the primary sources of drinking water to Chennai city.
You can find the lake behind the Chennai Bypass Bridge. In the past many decades, the lake has been abandoned. This lake is connected with the Chembarambakkam lake, and serves as a temporary catchment area.
The lake was deepened by 1 meter in 2012. The Water Resource Department took this initiative so as to uptick its total capacity to 7 Crores Cubic Feet.
