Chembarambakkam Lake is at 25-km distance from Chennai city. The city gets its water supply from two main reservoirs of which the Chembarambakkam Lake is one. There are 2 pipelines to supply water from the lake’s water treatment plant to meet the drinking water needs of Chennaites. Its primary source of water is through monsoon showers. Earlier, Chembarambakkam was called by the name Puliyur Kottam which is one of the 24 Kottams or Villages. This was in fact present during the Chola period and served as the headquarters of Kanchipuram then.
 
The Chembarambakkam Lake is a reservoir spread across 3800 acres or 16.55 Crores sq. ft.
 
Capacity: 364.5 Crores Cubic Feet. Its fullest capacity is 85 feet. The lake is present close to Chengalpet. The lake serves as the starting point for the Adyar River, to note.
