The cyclonic circulation over Sri Lanka and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal which has been giving moderate to heavy rains has further intensified into a low pressure area over the same region.
According to weathermen, the system has remained stationary for the last few hours and due to favourable weather conditions has been getting more marked. However, it may not strengthen further due to its proximity to the land mass.
With this, moderate to heavy rains will continue to lash the state of Tamil Nadu including Chennai for the next 2-3 days. Few areas may also see one or two spells of very heavy rains during the same time period. Instances of thunderstorm and lightning are also expected over some places.
As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, rainfall intensity will be much higher in the south coastal parts of Tamil Nadu as compared to other areas.
These ongoing rains will be accompanied with moderate to strong and gusty winds as well. Not only this, sea conditions will also be rough along and off the coast. Both locals and fishermen have been advised to cautious while venturing out in the see.
