Chennai Rains: Heavy showers to continue, chaos prevails

The heavy Chennai rain saga continues for the fifth consecutive day. Hefty rainfall activity has been going on and residents have been praying for these activities to come to an end. So much so that the region has been witnessing three-digit rainfall as well during the same time period.
The last 24 hours were not as rainy as the day before, but heavy showers did occur during the late-night hours. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Nungambakkam observatory recorded a whopping 66 mm of rainfall while Minambakkam saw 62 mm of showers.
These rainfall activities have been attributed to the presence of a low-pressure area which is over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu coast.
As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, only light rain and drizzle will occur during the next three to four hours. Until then, heavy showers are not foreseen.
As the low-pressure area still persists over Sri Lanka coast and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal, chances of moderate to heavy thundershowers are still very much probable during late evening and night.
Due to these rains, waterlogging ad localized flooding continues to wreak havoc over the city. So much so that relief camps have been set up and over 10,000 people have taken shelter in these relief homes. The situation will not witness an improvement until rains completely take a backseat from Chennai.
