Chennai Water Supply Lakes position as on date compared to last year

The 5 lakes have 5.3 tmc of water compared to just 1.5 tmc last year. We will also get Krishna water that too has good storage. Overall we are in better position compared to last year. But we still need more rains as the storage is just 40%. Dont compare the size of Chennai and AP dams. Ours are lakes converted for drinking water purpose, those are Dams built across perennial rivers for irrigation and drinking water purpose.
MJO will be back at end of the month.

This year monsoon is not yet over. MJO is expected to come into our basin from last week of november. This will start the next active phase of NE monsoon over the state.
Today and tomorrow Rains - North Interior Tamil Nadu districts to get rains in the absence of easterlies and as convergence happen in land.

Chennai in break mode. Being our monsoon a stray light rains happen here and there. We have chance of light isolated spells (5 to 10 mins rains here and there) till 18/19th. But nothing significant.
On Sunday Ramanathpuram got pull effect rains. Yesterday, Thanjavur got good rains from the convergence. The rains will slightly shift up now. The winds are westerlies with winds blowing from land...so the convergence happens in the interior districts. North Interior Tamil Nadu districts (Nilgiris, Dharmapuri, Erode, Krishnagiri, Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, Salem, Namakkal, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Thanjavur and delta belt will get rains in some places and not at all the places. Trichy and dindigul too if luck favors may get one odd spell.
So dont expect too much out of these rains.

When there is next good spell of rains anywhere in TN, i will update. Moisture filled Easterlies are expected to return on 19th after this low fizzles out close to odisha coast. This one is not associated with any low pressure area and it will not be great spell. Still some rains can be expected.
