The plan to make online registration of property mandatory has now been postponed to 1st January 2018. There are 578 property registration offices in the state of Tamil Nadu.

The state government of Tamil Nadu entered into a contract with TCS to convert the entire registration process to online mode.

TCS developed a special software called ‘Star-2.0’. A test-run on this software was conducted in 154 registration offices.

It was further planned to extend this facility to all the property registration offices in the state and make online property registration mandatory from 15th November. The activities to accomplish this target were expedited. However, there was a failure in meeting the target.

A senior official from the headquarters of the registration office explained that some AIGs (Additional Inspector Generals ) were not keen on implementing this project. So, concentrated efforts were not made to accomplish the originally set target. The personnel is attempting to show their influence in this regard to please the various IGs.

There has been a review of the progress on this plan and it has been decided that online property registration be made mandatory on a test-run basis from 1st December and to conduct the full-fledged official inauguration event after 1st January.
