The Southern Railways has placed orders to the Integral Coach Factory, Perambur to produce state-of-the-art coaches with quirky LED lights. With this, it is likely that the flashy trains having 360-degree rotatable seats and glass ceilings will become a reality with the southern railways.
The coaches will be quite the same as the Vistadome train that is functional along Arakku valley near Visakhapatnam. The project has been in pipeline since 2015. Now the Southern Railways has planned to force-start the project and ordered to manufacture the coaches.
All-new commuting experience
The Vistadome coaches are popular among Visakhapatnam-Kirandul railway line commuters. These new trains will be similar to Vistadome. Coaches with similar facilities will be manufactured to give the tourists an all-new experience, say ICF officials.
Orders for producing fifteen such Vistadome coaches are placed with the ICF. These shall then be augmented with the train functional in Tamil Nadu tourist destinations.
40-seat Vistadome coach
There will be glass ceilings and giant windows in the coaches. The passengers can cherish the travel experience, viewing picturesque views through the destinations. Each of these 40-seat Vistadome coach is priced Rs 3.38 crore. There will be 360-degree rotatable seats to give you clear vie the space around. There is no clear indication as to which train will get the Vistadome coach attached.
Speaking about this, a railway official from the Salem railway division said a few clearances are to be obtained before adding these new coaches upon which details and decisions shall be taken.
ICF to begin works after wrapping up Train-18
In a few weeks, works to design these coaches shall begin at the end of ICF. Currently, ICF is working out on the Train-18 project which is a self-propulsion EMU train that can function at 160km per hour speed. On completing this Train-18 project, it shall work out in manufacturing Vistadome coaches, say officials.
