Civic Body Called by Officials of Labour Court

Labour Court officials ordered attachment of movables for part-payment of salary for 13 labourers of the erstwhile Ambattur Municipality. The municipality was merged with the Chennai Corporation last year. each of the labourers will receive around Rs. 1 lakh from the civic body. The employees’ two-year probationary period was to be considered as permanent employment. Chennai Corporation commissioner D. Karthikeyan said that the civic body has filed a writ petition in the High Court to set aside the orders of the Labour Court. “Whatever the High Court orders, we will obey said by officials.
While the officials identified seven lorries for attachment but did not attach the movables after Corporation officials requested one week for settlement.
