The Railway Department is all set to commence Double-decker Uday Express from January 2018.
These trains will operate in 3 special routes between Coimbatore-Bengaluru, Bandra-Jamnagar, and Vizag-Vijayawada.
The project, known as Utkrisht Double-Decker Air-conditioned Yatri was presented during the budget session of 2016-17.
The 1st test-run was conducted with 3 coaches on 10th August. The test was done at a speed of 80 kmph.
The 2nd test-run was conducted on the route of Coimbatore-Bengaluru on 5th December at a speed of 100 kmph covering a distance of 235 km.
Uday Express trains will shortly join the other 9 2-tier train services already in operation.
The inaugural run of Uday Express is scheduled in the Coimbatore-Bengaluru route.
Uday Express will start at Coimbatore at 5.40 AM and reach Bengaluru at 12.40 PM. Thus, the officials announced that it will cover the distance in 7 hours travel.
On the return trip, Uday Express will start from Bengaluru at 2.15 PM and reach Coimbatore at 9.00 PM.
