It has been quiet for the city of Chennai for the last few days in terms of rain. In fact, the city has not witnessed any rainfall during the last fifteen days. The reason for this no rain show could be attributed to the absence of any significant weather system over the region.

The last rainy spell that the city had witnessed was in view of Cyclone Ockhi and that too was during the fag end of the month itself. Thus, Chennai has mostly witnessed a dry December except for the first two days or so.

The last 24 hours were just about a little rainy for Meenambakkam observatory wherein traces of rainfall were observed. Meanwhile, Nungambakkam remained dry during this period.

However, now rainy days are all set to make an appearance over the capital city of Tamil Nadu. Due to the ongoing Northeast Monsoon, rain activity is picking up pace over Chennai.

Thus, the city may receive very light rainfall activity today as well. Tomorrow onward, rains are likely to gain slight intensity and light showers are expected over the city.

Between December 20 and 22, light to moderate rainfall is expected over the city of Chennai. Sky conditions will remain between cloudy and overcast. Strong breeze will also blow over the region.

So far, Chennai has recorded 66 mm of rains against its monthly average rainfall of 177.4 mm during December. With 12 days in hand, there is a possibility that Chennai may be able to reach its monthly mean.
