With dramatic increase in the use of smartphones recently with all children, adults and everyone using the device, there was a public warning announced by the California Department of Public Health ordering to reduce cell phone radiation exposure and the health hazards associated with it.

A set of guidelines for reducing phone radiations is announced. According to a study conducted, the electromagnetic radiation from mobile devices upsurge while talking over phone, at times of low signal, when files are downloaded and while being in a fast-paced vehicle.

CDPH says that one can take very simple measures such as staying away from phone by not keeping close to your pillow while at night, and not placing it in your pockets can reduce the level of exposure in adults and children.

Researchers however do not know the exact reason of risk caused by cell phones. Prolonged intense use may be the factor causing impact on human health.

According to researchers, mobile phones send out radio frequency energy every time they receive or send signals from cell phone towers. This energy is believed to have impact on human health, according to scientists and public health officials.

Cancer, tumors and other health hazards:

According to a few experiments and studies on human health, overuse of mobile devices may lead to certain types of cancer, tumors, health effects, etc. So, researchers suggest keeping mobile phone at a distance from you – at least away by one feet.

There may also be health hazards associated with the use of headsets as they give out RF energy while you are on a phone call. Keeping the mobile phone inside the pocket or bra or belt holster is definitely not recommended, and the studies suggest placing it in the backpack or purse or briefcase.

Whenever your mobile phone is on, the antenna will try to keep connected with a cell phone tower, no matter whether you use it or not. There is no RF energy emitted out of the device when you have it in airplane mode as this mode shuts all cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and radio signals, says CDPH department.

So, how to use your mobile phones?
  • Always keep it away from your body
  • Make use of speaker mode or handset
  • Whenever you are not on call, remove the headset
What not to do with your mobile phone?
  • Text more and talk less
  • Avoid using mobile phone when there is not enough signal
  • Do not put your phone by your side while sleeping
  • There is no use of radiation shields. So, don’t rely on them at all
