Voting commences for the R. K. Nagar assembly election

The voting for the byelection in the Chennai R. K. Nagar Constituency commenced this morning and is in brisk progress.

EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) have been installed in the polling booths and a large number of voters. As all the polling booths are in sensitive localities, over 3000 police personnel and 950  Army personnel have been deployed to ensure proper security.

In each polling booth, 15 army personnel and 1 central government staff are on duty.

Further, as per the order from the High Court, arrangements have been made to telecast the entire voting proceedings. The voting, which commenced in the morning, comes to a close by 5.00 PM.

A full-fledged awareness programme has been conducted in order to emphasise the public about the importance to vote. A special control room has been set up in Chennai Metro City Corporation Headquarters, the Ripon Building.
