Plans to expand domestic carriers in routes that connect tier-2 and tier-3 cities comes handy to all the travelers in Chennai city.
The initiative taken by IndiGo airlines, SpiceJet, and GoAir for leaving out flights to small towns starting from Hyderabad and Bengaluru are priced at cheaper rates and there are very time-consuming options for Chennaites to reach destinations including Jammu, Vijayawada, Ranchi, Jaipur, Lucknow, etc.
These airlines get widened to tier-2 and tier-3 cities now with the setup of centre’s regional connectivity scheme.
One of the senior official from a private airline said travelers can find it easier to fly compared to going by train, as a number of connections starting from metros are to be made available in the coming years for the underserved and unserved airports – thanks to the UDAN regional connectivity scheme.
A trip between Chennai and Ranchi will be priced Rs 4,270 and the total flight timing will be 5.5 hours including that of layover time at Hyderabad airport. Via Kolkata, the flight timing will be lesser by 10 minutes. The airfare to Ranchi through Delhi is Rs 7000 and above and the total travel period will be 6 hours or more.
Chennai to Jaipur through Hyderabad will be priced Rs 4,728 in the month of February with total travel time of 8 hours and 40 minutes. Through Bengaluru, it may take 6 hours and 50 minutes.
