The sacred occasion of The Hindu Vaikunta Ekadasi falls on tomorrow (Friday, 29th December). Thousands of devotees are expected to participate in the Sorgavasal thirappu (The opening of the heavenly gates - the temple main corridors in the temples dedicated to Lord Vishnu and his incarnations)
So, special arrangements have been made in all the Vaishnavite temples, including the famous Sri Parthasarathy temple in Triplicane, Chennai.
The arrangements have been made by the joint efforts of the Tamil Nadu Police and the Department of Religious Endowments, to ensure the safety of the devotees and for the smooth Darshan of the Lord.
Triplicane Sri Parthasarathy temple is one among 108 scored temples for Lord Vishnu which have been praised in the songs by the 12 famous Vaidhnavite saints.
The main deity of the temple is Lord Venkatakrishnan and the ‘Utsavar’ deity is known as Parthasarathy Perumal.
It has been a tradition for several decades to celebrate the Vaikunta Ekadasi and the Sorgavasal opening in a grand manner.
As a regular annual routine, the Sorgavasal will be opened on the Vaikunta Ekadasi day this year as well – on 29th December. As thousands of devotees are expected, special arrangements are being made.
The Hindu Religious Department Assistant Commissioner Jyothilakshmi and the Police department Deputy Commissioner Vinod Santharam explained in this regard:
“Detailed maps indicating the routes to facilitate the devotees to enter the temple and have Darshan of the Lord will be displayed in all the corridor streets of the temple.
LED screens are also to be set up. Arrangements have been made for the senior citizens to enter the temple through the frontal gates from 8.00 AM to 10.00 AM. The differently-abled devotees will be permitted from 10.00 AM to 12.00 Noon.
800 police personnel are being deployed for the purpose of the safety of the devotees. A significant number of police will be in mufti joining the crowd of devotees.
24 surveillance cameras will be set up in and around the temple area. The control room for monitoring these cameras is also being set up.
Special arrangements have been made through the efforts of the Chennai Metro Corporation Department of health and Firefighting department,
On behalf of the Metro Transport Corporation, 44 special buses will be run from the various locations in the city to the temple."
The schedule on the day of Vaikunta Ekadasi
- 2.30 AM - Devotees with Rs. 3 ticket and badge will be allowed to enter the temple through the western tower gates of the temple.
- 2.30 AM to 2,45 AM – The Utsavar deity to be adorned in the Maha Mandapam
- 2.45 AM to 4.00 AM - The Utsava deity to be adorned with diamond drapers
- 4.00 AM – The commencement of the internal procession of the Utsavar deity
- 4.30 AM – Paramapadha Vasal opening and the Lord offering Darshan to the famous Vaishnavite Saint Nammalwar
- 4.30 AM to 5.00 AM – Chanting of Vedas and Divya Prabhandham commences.
- 5.10 AM – 8.45 AM – Bakthi Procession, the Utsavar deity adorned with Diamond draper to offer Darshan in the Punyakoti Vimanam
- 6.00 AM – 12.00 midnight – Darshan for devotees with special payments – entrance through the Back-gate for Rs. 100 tickets and entrance through the front tower gate for ‘Dharma Darshan’.
- 10.00 PM – Utsavar deity – (Adornment) Thirumanjanam
- 12.00 midnight – Procession of the deity with the Vaisnavite saint Nammalwar
