Chennai’s traffic chaos is going the upright wrong scale, the accident numbers and regular heavy traffic jams easily express that. All the vehicles ranging from Heavy load vehicles, Government Transport Vehicles and private cars, bikes etc roll over the same lane resulting in Road mishaps in the recent years, in some places even the roads can’t withstand the increasing stress on them leading to cracks and sudden debris.

The Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) is considered to be the only solution for this heavy congestion and it is likely to be introduced by the year 2019.

According to the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) plans exclusive corridors will be created in the centre of the important roads connecting main localities for the state of the art Public Transport Buses. This pathway will have subways for people to cross the road safely.

After a long survey conducted by the Transportation Department of Tamil Nadu, seven corridors are identifies inside the city. These routes are the most important hubs for covering the city and so the plan can induce drastic reduce in Air and Noise Pollution, also smartly controlling the peak time traffics.

The Seven planned Corridors are as follows

1.     Koyambedu-Poonamallee

2.     Koyambedu-Ambattur

3.     Koyambedu-Madhavaram

4.     Saidapet-Siruseri

5.     Saidapet-Mahindra World City

6.     Thoraipakkam-Chromepet

7.     Koyambedu-Saidapet.

Through this method a reduced travel time can be achieved which makes people opting for buses more than hiring cabs.  In 2009 Ahmedabad was subjected to this Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) plan which got high praises among Public and Government Bodies as well.
