The breezy air and reduced temperature fill up the winter season. The holiday period is yet to end though. And a lot of people are planning for their road trips to revel in the snow-capped mountains and the valleys that are of picturesque beauty.
Going on a road trip is a wonderful way of getting unwound, and cherish the cold weather! However, it is going to be detrimental to cars because it may lead to poor battery lives, wear and tear of tyres and other parts of the vehicle. So, to keep your vehicle healthy in spite of the winter season, here are a few tips you need to keep in mind.
Battery
One of the indispensable components of a vehicle is its battery. You need to provide maximum care during cold weathers, as the battery fluid may turn thick at this time, resisting smooth current flow. To avoid such situation, ignite and keep the vehicle turned on for a few minutes before you mobilize it. Check from time to time for any need for replacement.
Tyres
Make it a practice to check the tyre pressure from time to time. At winter periods, the pressure in tyre gets reduced. When you drive with low pressure, it may lead to premature wear and tear. As suggested by your tyre manufacturer, check the pressure in tyre from time to time.
Lighting
According to experts, making use of fog lamps is very important. Do not use headlamps with high beam in winter season, as the water droplets present in the air may reflect the light back to you. On the other hand, using fog lamps will double up as an extra feature of safety in your car. It will illuminate the road even at times of very low visibility. Apart from this, the other kinds of lighting systems are also to be checked including indicators, parking lights, tail lamps and others.
Coolant
Coolant is your car’s asset during chill season! It will keep the engine’s temperature neutralized during winter period. When the coolant level is very low, it may cause leakage which may end up in draining of substance. The engine may freeze in case of absence of coolant. So, you will always have to retain coolant and water during winter season.
Paint
Make sure to always park the car under any shade or in any covered area, or make use of car covers whenever you park. Apply a coat of polymer wax to your car’s exterior so that the paint doesn’t get faded out.
Fuel
When you keep the fuel tank full, it will prevent it from freezing of water particles and thus keep the engine warm throughout.
