The bus strike in the state of Tamil Nadu has been creating huge problems for many people who use bus services for their travel. It is now clear that this bus strike has resulted in people shifting to trains.
It is known that the Chennai division of Southern Railways have been helping the commuters by increasing the suburban services and now as many as 30 additional suburban services are run daily from Tuesday.
It is now said that 1.85 lakh passengers have been taking trains for reaching their destinations from 4th of January 2018. The preferred mode of transport by the public is trains now and it has increased to 20 % to 25 % now when compared to the past. It must be mentioned that people travel in the city plus they travel to nearby places like Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur etc using the trains more now.
From Rs 1.04 crores on 4th of January 2018 the earnings have shot up to Rs 1.35 crores on 7th of January 2018. During 2017 the earnings were 1.01 crores on 4th of January and 1.29 crores on 7th of January.
As per the officials the exact figures for Tuesday would be available on Wednesday and they were of the view that the amount would be more due to extra train services. One important piece of information is on 4th of January 2018 as many as 6.12 lakh people used trains and on 7th of January 2018 as many as 7.97 lakh people used train services.
People who travel between Chennai Central and Arakkonam every day were surprised to see the trains running with full of passengers till Tiruvallur or even up to Arakkonam now. This was not the case earlier when trains went empty once it reached Avadi. It is superb to note that metro rail on Friday recorded as many as 32,750 passengers.
