There are many people living in the slum clearance tenements. On Friday 12th January 2018, in the assembly meeting deputy chief minister of Tamil Nadu Mr. O. Paneerselvam spoke about the order that would be issued to give sale deeds to 42000 families living in the slum clearance tenements in as many as 11 districts.
The deputy chief minister also spoke about how the dwelling units have changed hands frequently and how in many tenements there were no original owners. A new order to issue sale deeds would be given as the government would not be able to trace the details regarding the original owners.
It must be noted that during the question hour in the assembly M. Varalakshmi who is Chengelpet MLA belonging to the DMK party raised an issue regarding people who have fully paid for the tenements did not get pattas.
It is important to mention that deputy chief minister Mr. O. Paneerselvam assured that steps would be taken and sale deeds would be given to the people.
It must be noted that apart from being the deputy chief minister for the state of Tamil Nadu, Mr. O. Paneerselvam aged 67 is also a convenor of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam from August 2017.
