The latest news is Greater Chennai Corporation is involved in floating tenders to invite private operators to take up the project of cycle sharing system. This cycle sharing system has been a long pending project is well known.
It is important to note that the non-motorised transport police was adopted by the corporation of Chennai in the year 2014. It must be noted that civic body was ordered to lessen the private vehicles usage plus was asked to promote the usage of non emitting forms of transport. It is now revealed that Rs 10 crores would be spent in the implementation this cycle sharing system project and civic body has now floated tenders for this purpose. It was in the year 2015 the feasibility study on implementing this cycle sharing was handed over to a consultant.
According to an official of Chennai Corporation, the detailed project report or DPR was completed by this consultant recently. One superb piece of information is cycle stands would be set up in as many as 378 places in all the 15 zones belonging to corporation of Chennai.
It is now brought out by an official that this cycle sharing would be of great advantage to many office goers plus to others like students etc and the project would have 5000 cycles with safety standards.
It is worthy to note that the potential bidder must provide the service under design, build, finance and operate or DBFO for a period of seven years. Other firms would be called up when the civic body decided to expand this cycle sharing system project in the future.
Cashless transactions like online payment portal plus others like e-wallet payment, credit card payment would be available for the users in this project and bidders have been asked to develop the above said methods. This would be according to the Digital India mode.
