Aminjikarai is an important locality in the Chennai city and the traffic here is huge. The latest news is additional bridge has been opened across the Cooum for the sake of traffic.
Since the year 2014 this bridge has been under construction and now it is opened. It must be noted that Rs 8 crores money has been spent in building this additional bridge across Cooum River.
Now it is confirmed that there won’t be any traffic snarls in this place as the bridge plus two new flyovers from Anna Arch –Nelson Manickam Road and Poonamallee High Road –Anna Nagar would clear traffic snarls from Koyambedu to Chennai Central and that would be superb. It is now brought out by some people that the new three lane link has widened a 60 m stretch across the Cooum River. Presence of narrow section of road in 1 km stretch till Pachaiyappa’s College and encroachments present at Aminjikarai market leads to traffic issues. For those pedestrians the stretch from the bridge till Anna Arch is very distressing.
Mr Gopakumar a resident of SBI Officers colony expressed his thoughts and said walking till Anna Arch is not easy and safe although the junction at the Anna Arch is safe.
He said that people find it tough to walk as the footpaths are absent due to the buildings. He also said that temporary stalls create issues for the people who use footpaths as these footpaths go under these stalls. As people walk on the roads the traffic is high and traffic police finds it tough here. Old bridge present adjacent to the new bridge would be demolished as the old bridge has become weak and this was confirmed by some officials belonging to the state highways department.
An official also hinted that there would be four lane bridges and totally there would be as many as ten lanes.
