Budget 2018-19: List of items to be costlier/cheaper

As the customs duty for the imported items has been increased, the prices of items such as mobile phone, motorcycles, fruit juices/squash, and footwear will go up.

The central Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented the budget for 2018-19 in the parliament today (Thursday, 1st February).

As mentioned, the customs duty for the imported items has been raised and hence these items will cost more.

At the same time, the customs duty for some other specific items such as whole cashew nuts (without peeling), a mirror used in solar panels, the hearing aids for the deaf, etc., has been reduced,

  • Imported cars and motorcycles
  • Mobile phones
  • Silver and gold
  • Vegetables and fruit juices- especially orange and cranberry
  • Sunglasses (spectacles)
  • Grocery items used in cooking- except soya protein
  • Perfumes and toiletries
  • Sunscreen, suntan, manicure and pedicure lotions
  • Toothpaste and fixative pastes and powders used in dentistry
  • Shaving items – raw materials
  • Deodorants
  • Radial tyres used in buses and trucks
  • Silk cloth
  • Footwear
  • Smartwatch
  • LCD and LED TV panels
  • Chairs and tables
  • Beddings
  • Lamps
  • Wristwatches, pocket-watches, and clocks
  • Toys, small toys for children
  • Video-game items
  • Articles and equipment for sports or outdoor games, swimming pools and paddling pools
  • Cigarette lighters and candles
  • Kites
  • Cooking oil, olive oil, and groundnut oil
Imported items with reduced prices
  • Raw (unpeeled) cashew nuts
  • Mirrors used in making solar panels
  • Hearing-aids used by the deaf
  • Small screws and associated items used in electronic gadgets
