Lord Subramanya Swamy temple of Pazhamudircholai

Pazhamudircholai is situated just 25 kms north of Madurai and in this place is present a famous temple dedicated to Lord Muruga. This Lord Subramanya Swamy temple here is one of the six arupadai veedu of Lord Muruga and is visited by many devotees. Another name for this temple is Solaimalai Murugan temple. The hill on which this temple is situated is called as ‘Vrishabhadri’ or ‘Idabagiri’ hill.

Located at about 4kms from the popular Azhagar temple, this Pazhamudircholai Lord Muruga temple is associated with famous Tamil poet Avvaiyar who is an ardent devote of Lord Muruga.

It must be noted that this poet Avvaiyar`s knowledge was tested here by Lord Muruga in the form of a small boy. The tree under which this took place is still present in this temple and is worshiped by many.

In this superb temple Lord Muruga is worshipped as Jnana Shakti and Goddess Valli is worshipped as Iccha Shakti and Goddess Devyani as Kriya Shaki. This is the only arupadai veedu where Lord Muruga is seen with his consorts Vallie and Devyani.   

One important piece of information is Lord Muruga’s weapon or’ Vel’ made up of stone is given great importance and is worshipped. Present at the hill top is a spring called as ‘Noopura Ganga’ and temple is dedicated to Goddess Raakayi Amman. Devotees take a small dip at this spring.

It is superb to note that Pazhamudircholai has many fruits vegetables plus natural springs. People visiting this temple would also visit the Lord Vinayakar present in separate shrine and have his blessings.

Devotees and people would be amazed to see the unique style of south Indian architectural craft in this temple of Lord Muruga. This temple celebrates many festivals is known.

This temple is opened for the devotees from morning 5.30am to 1pm and then from 4pm to 9pm.
