It may cost more to update your Aadhar details henceforth, here is why! The Aadhar authority - Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), in its latest announcement, has stated that it shall impose GST of 18 percent towards Aadhar details updates.

Thus far, a lot of official documents are already linked with the 12-digit Aadhar number, and a number of welfare schemes are linked as well. Aadhar details have in fact become mandatory for obtaining different kinds of services and benefits from the state and centre.

The recent UIDAI tweet states that Rs 25 plus 18 percent of GST will be applicable for all kinds of Aadhar card detail updates to be done.

It is possible to easily correct the Aadhar details including your name, date of birth, residential address, gender, etc. As of now, a charge of Rs 25 is collected for these processes. Likewise, Rs 25 is charged for biometric updates. For children, Aadhar enrolment as well as biometric updates will be made for free.

To check out your Aadhar number on UIDAI site or to get a black and white printout of the same, you need to pay Rs 10, whereas for color printout, the rate is Rs 20.

To all the Aadhar account holders, a toll-free helpline is also set up. If in case, the Aadhar enrolment centre requests for more than the fixed charges, people may approach the agency through the toll-free contact number. Reports or complaints can be filed at 1947 or at help@uidai.gov.in.

To note, 31st March 2018 is the last date for linking Aadhar number with all bank accounts, mobile numbers, PAN cards, etc.
