The state transport minister of Tamil Nadu government, R. Vijayabhaskar, informed that the battery-operated buses would be introduced in the Chennai Metro City before the end of the year.
There is an exhibition on the latest technology-based vehicles in NOIDA. The state transport minister visited this fair. After this, he informed that the fair displayed the latest electrically operated vehicles. Battery-operated buses were also on display. The state government of Tamil Nadu has been initiating steps to operate electric buses operating on battery.
The ministry has already discussed the central road transport minister and asked for the procurement of 200 electric buses in the 1st Phase. These buses will be operated in the Chennai Metro City. They will be introduced before the end of this year.
The buses will have 4 batteries. It can travel up to 250 km with this. The latest technology feature has been introduced in this. New buses with a single battery with automatic power change mode have been introduced. These buses can travel up to 50 to 60 km.
A bus with 4 batteries costs around Rs. 2 Crores. The single battery operated bus costs less. So, this has been selected. When the power in the single battery gets exhausted, it can be automatically changed over to the new battery. Activities for procurement of these buses have been undertaken.
