Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu witness light rains

The state of Kerala as well as Tamil Nadu recorded some rains during the last 24 hours. In fact, Kerala received light to moderate rain at few places and isolated light rain was seen over southern parts of Tamil Nadu including Karaikal.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Cochin recorded 7.0mm and Alappuzha recorded 9mm of rain. Light rains also occurred in nearby districts.

Weather of Karnataka remained almost dry. However, Koppal in North Interior Karnataka received moderate showers for short durations to the tune of 17 mm.

There are different factors affecting all these three states. A feeble cyclonic circulation was persisting over Southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Kerala Coast due to which Kerala received scattered rains. Easterly winds from Bay of Bengal were increasing moisture over southern parts of Tamil Nadu which resulted in light showers over southern most parts of Tamil Nadu.

Thus, in north interior Karnataka humid winds from Bay of Bengal as well as Arabian Sea were seen merging leading to isolated thundershower activities. Now, most of these factors have weakened and we expect dry weather conditions over Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Although, coastal Kerala may continue with light rain at one or two places for next 24 hours. Thereafter, weather of entire south peninsula will become dry. As these rains were negligible therefore they were not able to impact day and night temperatures and now also we do not expect much change in maximum and minimum temperatures.
