Beach station in Chennai is one of the most important stations that is frequented by many passengers ever day. It is known that this Beach station is a suburban terminal from where EMU trains travel in three different directions.

The latest news that has come out is in this important railway station there are no digital display boards for the sake of public who use this station daily and the passengers find it very difficult.

This digital display board if present would be useful as it would show the time of train services plus destination and the platform on which the trains arrive.

It must be noted that now not only passengers are worried but also the railway department staff at this station.

One problem that is now highlighted by the passengers is the announcements made over the public address system. It is now revealed that this announcement comes just before the train departure.

It is said that this problem might not be resolved in a year because to float a global tender to identify a contractor to provide digital display boards all over India the railway board has asked railways telecom arm Rail Tel.

It is worthy to mention here that on the MRTS section for the places inside the city as well as for the suburban places like Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Tambaram etc the commuters could get trains from Chennai Beach station. Few passengers catch trains at Beach station and go to places like Arakkonam and Avadi also is well known.

According to Mr Sridhar Joshi who is a regular traveller on the Avadi-MRTS cross- sectoral service going through Chennai Beach, people rush to catch a train that comes at the platform 8 from Avadi. He spoke about how an announcement is given that next train to leave would be from the platform nine. This causes many to rush to get that train.

At the Chennai central and Egmore the southern railways have provided digital display boards for those who travel long distances but there is no display board for suburban trains.

Mr K. Bhaskar who is a DRUCC or divisional rail user consultative committee member from Tiruvallur spoke about the presence of the above mentioned problem that is seen in other suburban stations like Tambaram etc. He further highlighted how this issue was taken up last month at the DRUCC meeting.

Mr. Bhaskar finally threw light on how the people stand on over bridges awaiting for the trains to enter platform and how these people run down the stairs to catch the trains.
