Indian Railways have announced that the reservation charts, which is regularly pasted over the coach of the train, will not be done from 1st March onwards in all trains of Southern Railway.

The system of pasting the reservation charts was scrutinized for the last 3 months on a test basis successfully in the Railway Stations – Chennai Central, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Mumbai Central, and Howrah. Now, this would be extended to other stations and trains.

Accordingly, all the trains starting from the A1 Grade, A Grade, and B Grade railway Stations will not have the reservation charts pasted on the coaches.

As per this, all express trains, mail trains, Shatabdi, Humsafar, Thurantho, Rajdhani, Garib Rath Express will run without the pasting of the reservation charts. Instead, SMS will be sent to the passengers who did the bookings to their cell phones.

Though this new system is set to be adopted from 1st March, this has already been implemented for some of the trains starting from Chennai Egmore.

There are 40 Railway stations in the state of Tamil Nadu - Chennai Central, Egmore, Coimbatore, and Madurai are A1 grade stations. Other stations belong to A or B Grade. It is to be noted that the reservation charts will not be pasted in any of the trains starting from the above stations.

SMS will be sent only to those passengers who booked through IRCTC website or the mobile App. The seat number or the berth number will be conveyed through SMS.

On the other, the passengers are somewhat concerned and anxious about this new development, as most of the senior citizens are not aware operating cell phones and checking SMS.
