Salary increase for Electricity board employees

An agreement was signed yesterday between the administration and the employee unions to increase the salary of the TANGEDCO employees by 2.57 times.
This would entail an additional expense of Rs. 1318 Crores per year for TANGEDCO.
The salary revision for TANGEDCO employee is done once in 4 years. As per this, the salary revision was to be taken up in the year 2015. However, even though the unions had discussions in several stages with the administration, the salary revision was not announced.
The state government announced in January that it will offer a monthly interim relief of Rs. 2500 till the final announcement of the salary revision.
The Department of Finance had earlier recommended that the salary revision must be done only once in 10 years for the engineers and senior officials. There was a strong objection to this. Some unions and associations went on strike on 1st February. Subsequently, the agreement was signed yesterday (Thursday, 22nd February).
The event was presided by the state minister for electricity, Thangamani, Energy Department Secretary Vikram Kapoor, EB Chairman Saikumar, and the Labour welfare minister participated.
