The officials have been exploring the possibility to reduce the fares the government Transport Corporation Express Buses.
There are more than 1000 buses with SETC - State Express Transport Corporation. They operate not only within the state but also to other states like Andhra, Karnataka, Kerala, and Puducherry. A daily revenue of up to Rs. 1.6 Crores was earned. The fares of these express buses were increased on par with the omnibuses from 20th January.
With this increase, the families travelling preferred trains or cabs. With this, the daily revenue started reducing much below Rs. 1 Crore. Considering this and also taking not of summer vacation and the need to retain the customers, the officials reviewed the possibility of reducing the fares.
As such a step would ensure more customers and also increased revenue thereby, they have recommended a reduction in the express bus fares. It is gathered that an announcement on this is expected soon.
