With the procedure of Aadhar cards being made mandatory for availing the various central government welfare schemes, including the Aadhar number to be linked to the mobile phone and the bank savings account, the central government has now named this scheme as ‘Baal Aadhar’. Special separate blue-coloured Aadhar cards are to be given to children below 5 years of age.

Biometric information is not required for these children. This Aadhar card can be used until the child reaches 5 years of age.

Once the child crosses the age of 5, biometric details are to be furnished. Aadhar card will not be mandatory for the children below 5 years of age to avail government education assistance or to study abroad.

The ‘Baal Aadhar card can be linked with the Aadhar card of the concerned parents.

When the child reaches the age of 5, 10, and 15, it is required to include the biometric details along with proof of date of birth and the school identity card.
