Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly, Vijayakant, on Friday offered 105 grams of gold for the ongoing work to provide a gold-plate ‘vimanam’ in Sri Andal Temple here.

Accompanied by wife Premalatha, Mr. Vijayakant arrived at the temple early in the morning and donated the gold to the Nachiar Trust that has been collecting for the ‘thayar vimanam’.

The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam founder leader was accompanied by party MLAs K. Pandiarajan (Virudhunagar) and A.K.T. Raja (Tirupparankundram).

The work of providing copper sheet over the ‘vimanam’ has been completed. “The work of putting up the gold plate has just started,” temple official K. Ravichandran said. Out of the total requirement of 81 kg of gold for the work, the trust has so far received 18 kg of gold, he added.
